In December 2023, there were 493 original notifications on the RASFF Portal including 352 of food, 18 of feed and 23 of food contact material.
With food, as last month, fruit and vegetables accounted for the most cases (21.6%), followed by nuts, nut products and seeds (13.4%), cereals and bakery products (9.7%), herbs and spices (7.7%).
Among 76 notified fruit and vegetable products, the non-compliant reason is related to pesticide (59%), including unauthorized pesticide and exceeding the maximum residue level. Chlorpyrifos, chlopyrifos-methyl, and Omethoate which were banned that are still detected. Some pesticides have a little high frequency such as acetamiprid, thiamethoxam, dimethoate. A highlight notice is the alert from the Netherlands that detects of unauthorized irradiation in dried goji berries from China.
With nuts, nut products and seeds, the highlight notification there are 17 cases of sesame seeds that are not compliant with a lack of the official certification. Besides that, the exceeded mycotoxin also needs to be noticed, there are 17 alerts this month.
With cereal and bakery products, there were 35 cases of alert, including 15 cases of exceeding MRLs of pesticides, mainly on Chlorpyrifos and tricyclazole. Most of the remaining cases are related to contaminants such as ochratoxin A, Mineral oil, aflatoxin; allergens, GMO....
With herbs and spices, the main non-complaint reasons are related to unauthorized pesticide of Chlopiryfos, ethylene oxide and contaminant of heavy metal, PAHs, mineral oil, and pyrrolizidine alkaloids contaminant.
