In January 2024, there were 389 original notifications on the RASFF Portal including 364 of food, 14 of feed and 11 of food contact material.
In food, fruit and vegetables accounted for the most cases (21.7%), followed by nuts, nut products and seeds (16.8%), dietetic foods, food supplements and fortified foods (11.0%).
Among 79 notified fruit and vegetable products, the non-compliant reason is related to pesticide (61%), including unauthorized pesticide and exceeding the maximum residue level. Un-authorised substances including Chlorpyrifos, chlorpyrifos-methyl, carbaryl, hexaconazole, acephate, fipronil, methamidophos, permethrin and chlorfenapyr were still detected. Another highlight notice is all mycotoxin alerts had in serious status, and origin products were almost from Turkey.
With 61 alert cases of nuts, nut products and seeds, the highlight notification there are 44 cases relevant to aflatoxin total and B1 focus on pistachios.
The new food group ranked third on the alert list is dietetic foods, food supplements and fortified foods with 40 cases. A alert we should notice is detection non-compliant food additive colour E171-titanium dioxide in food supplements. Besides that, we should take a look some case alert vitamins too high content exceeding permit maxium level in supplement product.
