In July 2024, there were 466 notifications on the RASFF Portal including 429 foods, 20 animal feeds and 17 food contact material notifications.
In food, fruits and vegetables are still the products that account for the most cases (92 notifications), followed by dietetic foods, food supplements and fortified foods (48 notifications) and poultry meat and poultry meat products (48 notifications).
There are highlight alerts reported this month:
- Microbiology: Most highlight is the detection of Salmonella in poultry products originating from Brazil and Poland (27 warnings) in nut and nut products (8 alerts); Listeria monocytogenes and E.coi O26 were detected in milk and milk products; Bacillus cereus in lemongrass powder originating from Thailand; E.coli O157 in meat originating from France.
- Pesticides: The banned active substances such as 2,4-D, paraquat, chlopyrifos, fipronil, dieldrin are detected in vegetable products, spices, and cereals; The frequency of residues of acetamiprid, imidacloprid, metalaxyl, carbendazim, Azoxystrobin exceeding the MRL is quite frequent in the vegetable and fruit groups. Residues of captan, chlorate, fosetyl were detected in the group of food supplements originating from the Czech Republic. Residue of ethylene oxide is detected in spices, cereals, food supplements originating from India and barley powder originating from the US.
- Mycotoxins: Some notice including Aflatoxin is exceeded the threshold in nuts and nut products quite frequently; Ochratoxin A was exceeded in some dried fruit products, cereal products, spices and cocoa.
- Food additive: The most highlight case is the detection of the banned colorant Sudan I in curry originating from Turkey, and in red pepper powder products originating from Afghanistan; Sunda IV is detected in palm oil originating from Guinea. In addition, there were cases of benzoic acid E 210 exceeding the threshold in croissants and mango juice; E 210 is not allowed to be used in syrup-based food supplements originating from Ukraine that was detected. Sulfur dioxide exceeding the threshold in dried fruit and shrimp.
- Antibiotics: detecting banned substances such as nitrofuran, leuco-malachite green in seafood
- Allergies: lack of declaration of allergies egg, gluten, and wheat
- Other contaminants: noteworthy cases of excess Cadmium residue in avocados originating from Peru, sunflower seeds originating from the US; Hg residue, histamine, residue exceeding the permitted level in fish; high Pb residue in pineapple, olives and wine.
